State President Adora Obi Nweze stated that she will be travelling the state to visit different branches. This year, the membership drive is the focus.
Dr. Caroline Shine presented the President and her Vice Presidents with copies of the book, “The Bomb Heard Around the World: The Lives and Deaths of Harry T. & Harriette V. Moore” by Gregory Marquette. The books were donated by Mr. Wike Williams, former president of the West Volusia NAACP Branch. Mr. Williams is also donating every branch a copy, and the State Secretary will provide the addresses for each president so he can mail the books to them. State President Adora Obi Nweze stated that they will be teaching from the book. The State desires to raise one million dollars by January 2026, increase membership by 500,000, and obtain its own building. Every branch should have no less than 100 members.
Florida chairs the National Education Committee. President Adora Obi Nweze stressed the importance of prayer in our agenda and our churches.
The secretary must be in place, and if one cannot function, she/he should step down. She stressed the need to effectively use technology, make plans, and then implement them, to work with secretaries to increase membership, and put membership plans together. The vision is to make history again, saving Black children, adults, and the homeless.
There will be training online May 27-30. Branches need to be aware of the Project 2025 report.
In August, there is slavery remembrance, and we should recognize Mr. Nat Turner.
If officers miss mandatory training, they will be removed from office. There will also be a Train the Trainer training.
National wants to be able to access the Branch bank accounts.
National will set up a 7-point advocacy training for each branch.
Ms. Cynthia Slater spoke on civic engagement and how to handle internal conflicts within the branches, chairs not knowing their roles, disagreements, and different leadership styles. Ms. Sandy Jones stated that units and branches should try to work together. The Orange County Local President read the constitutions and bylaws, oath changes, structure, and increased membership costs.
Only National training is “mandatory.” All local complaints must be made to the State rather than National.
Executive committee reports must be in writing and submitted monthly.
There is a new logo, and all must follow the NAACP branding protocols.
National will take care of events’ liability. The state is sponsoring a Golf tournament as a fundraiser, and each branch should send at least three people.
Donald Hart, a FPL representative, spoke on Marketing strategies. Make every commitment to have all committees work. There are incubators for small businesses, cybersecurity, and AI consultants. Use what you already have and start with whatever you have.
Mr. Harold Ford, FSC Education Chair/Area Director of Membership and manpower, spoke on Private, Public, and Charter schools. The Academic Strategy consists of a Training Center, Youth-led units, and not allowing whitewashing.
There will be academic practice training on May 6th, 23rd, and 27th, and he asked the Education Committee members to attend.
There was an environmental Justice presentation and discussions of hurricane preparedness and readiness, siting safety locations, first aid, and building relationships.
