From Thursday, April 25th, through Saturday, April 27th, I spent time in Orlando for the 2025 NAACP Spring Quarterly Area Meeting. Looking back on the experience, there were many positive aspects to this meeting. I was able to meet many important members of our organization, such as our Florida state president and the Branch presidents from other counties.

The atmosphere was bustling and filled with excitement. Even though it was my first time attending a quarterly meeting, everyone treated me like I was family. This made the experience feel homely and comfortable, as no one was made to feel left out. At the business end, attendees were all ecstatic to hear the updates and plans that our organization had moving forward, along with training for our people in their positions. Although I did not attend the training as a general member, the people I know who did explained that they learned much about their positions and how to improve.

A meeting I attended included the Youth Council meetings, where we discussed what to do in cases of natural disasters and how to prepare. I may not be a part of a Youth Council, but it was awe-inspiring to see the progress that we were making. Many counties had created programs in their schools to help support the youth, which were all led by the youth themselves. Our youth are doing much to improve our state in the ways that they can, and I am intrigued to see what else they can come up with.

Overall, I found the quarterly meeting to be an enjoyable experience with valuable information from our peers. I can see myself continuing to attend these meetings, along with choosing to get more involved as a new and young member of the West Volusia NAACP!
