Doctor of Dental Surgery and military man Dr. Terry C. Blanks Jr. exemplifies dedication, expertise, and a commitment to community service. Hailing from Rebecca, Georgia, his journey began with a steadfast dedication to education and a desire to impact the world positively. After graduating from high school in 1961, he relocated to Daytona Beach, Florida, to attend Bethune-Cookman College, a prestigious institution founded by the esteemed educator and civil rights leader Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune. There, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry in 1966.
Dr. Blanks continued his academic journey by obtaining his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from Howard University College of Dentistry in 1970. Howard University, an historically Black university, is renowned for producing distinguished professionals who significantly contribute to society.
Upon graduating, Dr. Blanks distinguished himself through exemplary service. He began his professional career with an internship in Comprehensive Dentistry at The United States Public Service Hospital in Brighton, Massachusetts, as part of The United States Public Health Service. Following the completion of his internship, Dr. Blanks joined The United States Coast Guard, serving at The Coast Guard Base in Boston, Massachusetts, with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. After discharged in 1973, he transitioned to the United States Army Reserves as a Major, while also establishing a private practice in Boston, Massachusetts. In addition to this, he became a part-time assistant Professor at Boston University School of Graduate Dentistry.
In 1982, Dr. Blanks moved to Florida, where he established a successful private dental practice in DeLand. His professional accolades include recognition as a Master in the Academy of General Dentistry, a Fellow in the International Congress of Oral Implantology, and completion of advanced training such as the Misch International Implant Institute prosthetic program and IV Conscious Sedation.
Dr. Blanks is also actively involved in various professional organizations, including the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the Florida Dental Association, the Central Florida District Dental Association, and the Volusia Flagler Dental Association.
Beyond his notable professional achievements, Dr. Blanks is deeply engaged in his community. Along with his wife, Beaulah, he is an active member of Bethel AME Church in DeLand, Florida. In his leisure time, Dr. Blanks enjoys playing the electric
bass guitar, flying private planes as an instrument-rated pilot, traveling, and riding his motorcycle.
Dr. Terry C. Blanks Jr. embodies the spirit of perseverance, excellence, and community service, making him a remarkable figure in Black History.
