Attending the NAACP Florida State Conference Quarterly Meeting is always an experience I look forward to, and this one did not disappoint. I make it a priority to attend the Secretaries’ Training whenever possible—it’s one of the best opportunities to level up my skills and deepen my understanding of the roles and responsibilities that help strengthen our branch.
This meeting was especially meaningful as it marked State Secretary Kelley Diona’s first Secretary meeting since being elected into office. She stepped into the role with confidence and clarity, setting the tone for strong leadership ahead. Her insights and guidance reaffirmed the importance of organization, consistency, and excellence in our work.
One of the highlights for me this time was the opportunity to truly network with members from other branches across the state. Making these connections is invaluable—learning from one another, sharing challenges, and discovering best practices helps all of us grow stronger together.
And of course, hearing NAACP Chairman Leon Russell speak never fails to light a fire. His Power Hour session was powerful and motivating, and my favorite quote of the day summed it up perfectly: “We are not partisan, but we are political as hell!” That reminder of our mission and responsibility resonated deeply.
What made this meeting one of my favorites was the strong presence of our own branch. Eight members of our executive team were in attendance, including our new Branch President, Rev. Dr. Caroline Shine. Having so many of us in the same space created incredible opportunities to share ideas, brainstorm, and align our vision for the work ahead.
I left this meeting energized, inspired, and excited about what’s to come. I’m truly looking forward to seeing the impact our team will continue to make in our community.
